The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first candidate list on Saturday. In the first list, the saffron party has fielded Vinod Lakhamashi Chavda as it candidate for the Kachchh constituency.
The first announced list consists of 195 candidates. Gujarat is a prestige battleground for the saffron party. Kuchchh is one of the Lok Sabha constituencies in the state of Gujarat. BJP’s Vinod Lakhamshi contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from the Kachchh seat as the BJP and NDA candidate.
Kachchh is one among the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat.
Chavda won the election by contesting against Naresh Naranbhai Maheshwari by securing 6,37,034 votes. While the opposition candidate was able to secure only 3,31,521 votes. The 2019 election result for Kachchh highlighted the BJP’s continued dominance in Gujarat.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, BJP fielded Chavda as the candidate from the Kachchh seat. He won the seat by securing 5,62,855 votes against the opposition Congress candidate, Dinseshbhai Parmar. Parmar was only able to secure 3,08,373.
While in 2009, Poonamben Jat had beaten Danicha Valjibhai Punamchandra. It’s a seat BJP hasn’t lost since 1996.
In a strategic move, the saffron party has unveiled its candidate list showcasing a commitment to diversity and social inclusion. To woo the votes of SC, the party has fielded 27 Scheduled Castes candidates in several constituencies. This move caters to the interest of the SC community, a crucial demographic in several Indian States. Vinod Lakhmashi is one of the SC candidates announced by the party.
