Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is the latest victim of deepfakes. After a video of the actor endorsing a political party went viral, Singh has filed a police complaint.
The video of the Bollywood actor’s interview with the news agency ANI during a recent visit to Varanasi was manipulated with AI-generated audio where Singh appears to be criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi over issues of rising unemployment and inflation.
Additionally, the manipulated video includes the actor urging people to vote for Congress.
Responding to the viral video, Ranveer Singh took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and wrote, “Deepfake se bacho doston (Friends, beware of deepfakes).”

The actor’s spokesperson stated that Singh’s team has filed an FIR with the police against the social media handle that promoted the AI-generated deepfake video and added that the investigation is ongoing.
Previously, a deepfake video of Aamir Khan had made the rounds where he appeared to be endorsing a political party using a clip from Satyamev Jayate, telecasted over a decade ago. The video shows Khan criticising the BJP over its empty promise of giving Rs 15 lakh to every Indian citizen’s account.
Khan released a statement clarifying that he had never endorsed any political party in his 35-year-long career. The Dangal actor registered a case with the Mumbai Police’s Cyber Crime Cell.
In terms of his upcoming projects, Ranveer Singh will be next seen in Rohit Shetty directorial Singham Again, Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3 and Shaktimaan directed by Basil Joseph.
