If I Speak The Truth, He Won't Be Able To Face It: Anurag Kashyap On His Rift With Abhay Deol

Renowned director of Bollywood, Anurag Kashyap, recently shed light on his rift between actors Abhay Deol and Pankaj Jha, and on the disagreements that marred their further collaborations.

The rift between the filmmaker and Deol began after the successful release of  Dev D in 2009. The actor has been vocal about the rift, however, Kashyap has finally addressed the issue, saying that Deol would not be able to face anyone if he narrated his version of the truth in public.

In an interview with Janice Sequeira, when the filmmaker-actor was questioned about his ability in maintaining relationships, Kashyap said, “I am not bad at maintaining relationships. Abhay, I have not met him since the shooting of Dev D. He didn’t even come for promotions and he has never spoken to me since. If he wants to call me toxic, fine, it’s his side of the story”.

He added “The truth can’t be spoken, because if I will speak the truth, he won’t be able to show his face. There is too much truth in there that Abhay will also not have the courage to talk about.”

Regarding Jha, Kashyap clarified the confusion surrounding his replacement with Pankaj Tripathi in Gangs of Wasseypur. He explained, “The situation with Pankaj Jha seems like a big misunderstanding. Back then, he had joined the Osho ashram and was focused on painting rather than acting. When I needed him for Gangs of Wasseypur, he was unavailable, so I cast Pankaj Tripathi at the last minute due to budget constraints. Surprisingly, Pankaj Jha is upset after 14 years. In my mind, he had stepped away from acting. He only returned with Panchayat. He never reached out to me, so I have no idea why he’s so upset now.”

On the work front, Kashyap was recently seen in the Vijay Sethupathi starrer Maharaja, and is now set to share the screen with Gulshan Devaiah in Bad Cop.
