
"Let Me Act": Mohanlal's Stern Retort To "Don't You Want To Be Real-Life Politician" During Empuraan Interview
While giving an interview as part of the release of the upcoming action thriller Empuraan, the sequel to blockbuster Lucifer, actor Mohanlal once again reiterated that politics is not his cup of tea.
During the interview with Times Now‘s Navika Kumar, the anchor asked the legendary actor if he wanted to be a real-life politician, in the context of the political layers of the March 27 release L2 Empuraan. The protagonist played by Mohanlal as Stephen Nedumpally in the earlier franchise, Lucifer, was seen as constantly involved in politics, wielding a significant political clout throughout the plot. The upcoming part, Empuraan, is also said to follow the same line, presenting the hero Stephen Nedumpally through different layers, including politics.

However, when the anchor asked, “don’t you want to be a real-life politician,” the mega-star asserted he is an actor. When the anchor began listing legendary actors’ names such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Vijay involved in politics, the actor asked, “So what?”
“Politics is not my cup of tea, let me act,” Mohanlal added.
The anchor then went on to ask if politics are that bad, the Malayalam star replied that it is fine, but he is happy with acting. “Let me complete my beautiful life with this job,” the actor said with a sigh.
During an interview, the Mohanlal starrer movie’s script writer Murali Gopi had stated that the basic idea of Lucifer was political and media funding, which he claims he has not found as plots in movies.

In 2018, after the actor met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and held an interaction, there ware speculations that he would join the BJP and the saffron camp would induct the actor into Rajya Sabha. In 2019, Mohanlal received a Padma Bhushan award by the Narendra Modi-led BJP government, honouring his contributions to cinema. However, the actor had time and again rejected speculations regarding his political ambitions.
Notably, the BJP had also publicly welcomed the actor into the camp, offering a ticket during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, to which the Lucifer star reiterated his decision to remain as an actor. The actor has also made it clear that he does not want to have even a tryst with the BJP, as per a report by The Hindu, citing sources.
