In Mumbai’s Kandivli area on Friday night, a car owned by popular Marathi actor  Urmila Kothare ran over two labourers working on a Metro project. One of the labourers died on the spot, while the other was severely injured.

According to the police, the actor was returning home after a shoot when her driver lost control of the car and hit the two labourers near Poisar Metro station.

The car, a Hyundai Verna was being driven at high speed and the driver has been booked under sections of rash driving and causing death by negligence.

The police statement revealed that the car ran over the two labourers which further resulted in the death of one and the hospitalisation of the other. The driver was also severely injured, while the actor suffered minor injuries. It is reported that the actor’s life was saved due to the timely deployment of the airbag.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident. The police have registered a case against the driver and are further probing the matter.

Some of her notable works include Marathi films like Duniyadari, Shubha Mangal Saavadhan, Mala Aai Vhhaychy!, Ti Saddhya Kay Karte, and Hindi TV serials Maayka and Mera Sasural. She has also appeared in popular Marathi serials such as Asambhav, Uun Paus, and Goshta Eka Lagnachi.
