Mohanlal is currently basking in the success of his crime thriller Thudarum directed by Tharun Moorthy, which has crossed the milestone of Rs 100 crore. Amidst the ongoing celebration, special plans for his 65th birthday are rife. However, the re-release of the actor’s iconic 2007 film Chotta Mumbai has now been postponed by the makers.
To commemorate the star’s birthday, Chotta Mumbai was planned to be re-released in 4K restored version. According to the initial plan, the film was scheduled to hit theatres on May 21. While this announcement sparked excitement among fans, the film has been postponed by the organisers.

The move stems from the unwavering box office performance of Mohanlal’s recent Thudarum. The film, which hit theatres on April 24, has been making wonders at the box office by collecting more than Rs 200 crores worldwide. The film is witnessing a steady run in theatres with critical acclamation and positive reviews pouring in.
Mohanlal’s close friend and co-producer of the film, Maniyanpilla Raju, confirmed the postponement of Chotta Mumbai’s re-release through an official announcement. His post read, “This second arrival of Thala and Pilla will be a little late as the Jaitra Yatra is progressing in the “Thudurum” theater…. Mohanlal, wonders continue.”

Directed by Anwar Rasheed and written by Benny P. Nayarambalam, the action comedy film was released on April 7, 2007. With Mohanlal playing the lead, the film also stars Kalabhavan Mani, Siddique, Jagathy Sreekumar, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manikuttan, Bijukuttan, Sai Kumar, and Bhavana in supporting roles.

The film follows Vasco da Gama (Mohanlal) and his gang of friends, all unemployed and leading a happy-go-lucky life until they encounter a corrupt police officer and gangster, Nadeshan.
Soon after release, the film became a major box-office success and became a cult classic over the years, leaving a lasting impact on Kerala’s popular cinema. Chotta Mumbai is also regarded as one of the most entertaining films in Mohanlal’s career.
