Earlier on Friday, a video posted by the paparazzo Viral Bhayani showed influencer Urfi Javed being taken into police custody in Mumbai. Since then, Urfi Javed has been trending on all social media platforms, and the incident has divided the entire internet; some said it was drama, while others suggested that the Big Boss OTT participant might have been arrested due to her choice of clothing.
Finally, the Mumbai Police has provided clarification and details about a criminal case registered against the television actor for misusing the Mumbai Police insignia and uniform.
In the purported video, a female police officer is seen asking Urfi to accompany them to the police station. Urfi defiantly asked why, to which the cop replied, “Itne chhote kapde pehenke kaun ghumta hai?” (Who roams around wearing such short clothes?)
The influencer is also heard asking the cop who ordered her arrest. In response, the cop stated that whatever she wanted to say, she could say it at the police station. The video then shows an argument between Urfi and the female police officers, and later the TV actor was taken to the vehicle as the officers held her by the arms and “took her into custody’.
Urfi was seen wearing a backless red top with a pair of denim pants in the video.
“One can’t violate law of the land, for cheap publicity,” a social media post by the Mumbai Police said.
“A viral video of a woman being allegedly arrested by Mumbai Police, in a case of obscenity is not true – insignia & uniform has been misused. However, a criminal case has been registered against those involved in the misleading video, at Oshiwara Pstn under sections 171, 419, 500, 34 IPC,” the Mumbai Police said in the post.
According to them, the investigation is on and the fake inspector is under arrest. The police has seized vehicle as well.
An Instagram post by the influencer on Friday evening will provide more clarity on the incident. According to the post, she was “arrested by the fashion police for my fierce fashion game, but nothing can stop me!” She then goes on to announce the launch of a collection. This means that the entire event was a prank promotion for the collection and it went completely wrong.
