Murder Mubarak Review: This Netflix Release Is About Status, Love And Motives

Homi Adajania”s murder(s) mystery, “Murder Mubarak” is about how mere mortals responds when they have to take a survival call when life”s two biggest situations hit them hard: those two mysteries are love and finding answers (obviously, according to the this Netflix release). Helmed by Sara Ali Khan, Vijay Varma, Pankaj Tripathi among others, this Madox Films production unravels the unexpected in the lives of couple of socialites, a middle class family, a group of staff members from a high-end club in Delhi and two police officers.

There are many interesting things about “Murder Mubarak“: The return of Bollywood”s own diva, Karisma Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi”s effervescent Desi cop Bhavani Singh; Sara Ali Khan”s full of life widow Bambi Todi and little-slow-but-engaging script.

The scrip is engaging is, because, like in many other murder mysteries, this story about the inner struggles of the Delhi elites does not leave a room for the viewer to guess who the murderer is till the end. The story and the direction are set in a way that you stay put with Assistant Commissioner of Police Singh and associate Sub Inspector till the end as the mystery evolves.

Another catch in Murder Mubarak is the way a love (or a love affair) being presented along with the main thread.

In arts and literature, when murder mystery stories are told entwined with love narratives, they offer compelling blend of suspense and emotional depth. Here, the script, written by Gazal Dhaliwal and Suprotim Sengupta based on celebrated Indian author Anuja Chauhan”s ‘Club You To Death’, espouses the above said blend to keep you glued into the film.

By intertwining romantic elements, the narrative Homi Adajania took with the support of superb writing add layers of complexity in the film, exploring not only the puzzle of a crime but also the intricacies of human relationships. This fusion, clubbed with notable acting performance by the lead actors created a captivating journey that keeps viewers engaged till the final revelation. Sanjay Kapoor”s Raja, who is struggling in the present after losing past glory; Karisma”s “B-grade actor acting in C-grade movies” with the shades of perception and acceptance; Dimple”s “always on Tequila horny lady” character and Tisca”s protective mother are on the sides of the story, but elevates the whole experience.

The film begins with the presidential elections to the Royal Delhi Club but suddenly turns in to the main thread of the movie, the murder of a physical trainer who later proves to become a blackmailer of many sorts. Then, comes more murders and the details of the intricacies of love, that was once lost, but sees a reemergence.

Murder Mubarak is for all those movie buffs who would love to watch a simple but effective Desi crime thriller.
