A former executive at Yoozoo Games was reportedly sentenced to death in China for murdering the founder of the high-profile Chinese gaming company. Lin Qi, the chairman and CEO of Yoozoo Group, died on December 25, 2020, after being poisoned by a colleague named Xu Yao.

According to a CBS News report, Xu Yao poisoned Lin Qi”s food over a professional dispute. Lin Qi”s Yoozoo owns the film rights to “The Three-Body Problem,” a best-selling Chinese science fiction trilogy. Reports indicate that Xu headed up a subsidiary in charge of business to it. The company was also best known as the developer of Game of Thrones: Winter Is Coming, a game based on the TV series.

The Independent reported that police had detained Xu Yao a few days after Lin Qi”s death. The court reportedly said in a statement that Xu Yao poisoned beverages in the office between September and December 2020 because of disputes between him and the company founder. Four other people were also left seriously ill due to the poisoning but later recovered.

Lin Qi was a notable personality in China”s lucrative gaming market. He founded the Yoozoo Group in 2009. It is worth mentioning that the company, also known as Youzu Interactive, is also the co-publisher of Supercell”s smash-hit game Brawl Stars, along with China”s Tencent Holdings. Meanwhile, The Sun reported that Xu Yao made a murder plot after Lin Qi signed a big money deal with online streaming giant Netflix. The report also added that Xu Yao had his own lab where he tested various poisons that he purchased from the dark web.
