Netflix Removes Nayanthara's 'Annapoorani' After Right Wing Groups Opposes Scenes From The Movie

Nayanthara”s Annapoorani has been removed from Netflix after right wing groups in India opposed and filed cases against the movie. The movie is not available currently on the streaming platform.

Released on December 1, Annpoorani hit the online platform on December 29. A days after its release on the Netflix, an First Information Report  (FIR) has been lodged against the movie for hurting religious sentiments.

The complaint filed by the Hindu Seva Parishad alleged that the movie included controversial remarks on the Lord Ram. Hindu Seva Parishad’s Atul Jeswani said that there are many scenes in the movie that insult Lord Ram. The sentiments of the Hindu community have been hurt by making unfitting remarks on Lord Ram and he termed the movie as “anti-Hindu”.

Ramesh Solanki, a former Shiv Sena leader and founder of Hindu IT cell had earlier filed an FIR against the movie stating that the movie offended the Hindu religious sentiments.

In a letter written to Vishwas Hindu Parishad, Zee Studios, one of the producer”s of the movie, communicated that they would immediately remove the film until edited.

“We have no intentions as co-producers of the Film to hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindus and Brahmins community and would like to hereby apologize for the inconvenience caused and hurt caused to the sentiments of the respective communities,” they added.

Helmed by debutant director Nilesh Krishnaa, the movie also stars Jai, Sathyaraj, KS Ravikumar, Redin Kingsly, Achyuth Kumar, Kumari Sachu, Renuka, Karthik Kumar, and Suresh Chakkaravarthy. Annapoorani is produced by Pa Ranjith’s production house, Naad Sstudios, in association with Zee Studios and Trident Arts.
