Abhishek Chaubey”s series Killer Soup, is a gripping dark comedy drama, and reports highlights that it succeeds in keeping audience at the edge of their seats. As the first web show, the reviewers points that Chaubey does exceptionally well. The story has lots of twist and turns which caters the curiosity of the viewers. “The black comedy did give everyone anxiety as to what was going to happen next, a testimony to the fact that it is a well-made thriller,” Times of India writes about the series.

The eight-episode Netflix series is set in a fictional hill town in Tamil Nadu. The main characters in the series are Swathi Shetty (Konkona Sen Sharma), an unskilled cook who wishes to start a restaurant, and her self-absorbed husband, Prabhakar Shetty or Prabhu (Manoj Bajpayee). Manoj Bajpayee has dual role in the film; Prabhu, the business man, and Umesh, the masseur in the spa.

In the cat and mouse game, where there is a constant shift between the predator and the victim, Konkona Sen Sharma and Manoj Bajpayee posed as a wonderful team, and they portrayed these unusual roles efficiently. In portraying ambitious woman, with shades of vulnerability, Konkana Sen Sharma”s layered character Swathi excelled in depth of her performance. Acknowledging her commendable performance in the series, Firstpost writes: “Coming to the performances, Konkona Sen Sharma shines as this very layered Swathi Shetty. She is nervous, yet determined, vulnerable and yet again in control. As she spirals up in lies and more lies and cover-ups, she is not going to give up.” The other characters played by Nassar, Anula Navlekar and Kani Kusruti, and Lal delivered good performances.

The mystery ingredient and shocking end makes the chaos and complicated series an engaging watch. “Like Chaubey”s films, the series is rooted in a defined, immersive, authentic space. The soundtrack is, however, a medley of languages and dialects spoken with a variety of accents. The range of linguistic peculiarities and cadences significantly enrich the show,” NDTV writes.

The Killer Soup has been written by Abhishek Chaubey along with Unaiza Merchant, Anant Tripathi and Harshad Nalawade.
