Ahead of the movie’s release, as a bonus to the filmmakers, the government has permitted additional shows in the state. The government has allowed the fantasy actioner to have a special 9 am show and a fifth show that ends by 2 am.
Kanguva was initially supposed to be released in theaters on October 10. However, the film was pushed when Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan hit theaters on October 10. It is expected the movie will collect more over the weekend than on its opening day.
The film is director Shiva’s first collaboration with Suriya, Kanguva is of high importance for the director as his last film, the Rajinikanth-starrer Annaathe (2021), had failed to make much impact at the box office.
Interestingly, Kanguva’s pre-release sales have also been strong, with the movie grossing Rs 7.39 crore in India as of 8 pm on Wednesday, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The Tamil 3D and 2D versions alone have generated Rs 4.28 crore from 2,18,270 tickets across 3,588 shows and Rs 1,09 crore from 62,386 tickets across 1,434 shows.
