Thug Life brings back the Nayagan legends Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan together after two decades. Even though both the actor and director stayed in contact all these years, planning to make a film together, they waited for the right idea to create magic. And that’s what paved the way for Thug Life.

“Amar Hai”: The base script of Thug Life

Writer-producer Kamal Haasan wrote a script titled Amar Hai (meaning “immortal”), which was a pun. It was about a man who is believed to be dead but isn’t, whose name is Amar, and that becomes symbolic.

When he presented this idea to Mani Ratnam, he expanded it and added his own touches. The director etched the film into his version by embellishing it.

Thug Life‘s point of view on violence

Even though the core idea of the film resonates with violence, Kamal Haasan has promised that the violence of Thug Life would be different. As per the actor, unlike the violence portrayed in Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee films, which entertain the audience, the violence of Thug Life will portray a sense of responsibility.

He also added that, just like Nayagan, Thug Life will show the futility of the violence and it will show you how you deal with your strength.

The Kalki 2898 AD actor said that the intention of the film is not to say, “Violence pays,” but a different point of view, which will surprise the audience.
