Why Arijit Singh Quit Playback Singing?

Renowned singer Arijit Singh has finally broken his silence on his decision to step away from playback singing, explaining that the move comes after years of introspection rather than any single incident.

The 38-year-old musician said he has chosen to close this chapter of his career to focus on personal growth, independent music, and exploring new creative challenges.

In a series of candid messages shared on his private X account, Arijit clarified that his decision was not impulsive. “There isn’t just one reason for this; there are multiple factors, and I have been contemplating this for quite some time. Ultimately, I have mustered the necessary courage,” he wrote, addressing the widespread speculation around his announcement.

Opening up about his creative mindset, the singer admitted that restlessness and a constant need for novelty played a major role in his decision.

Arijit said he tends to lose interest quickly, which is why he often changes arrangements during live performances. “So here’s the truth: I’ve grown weary. I need to explore different music to thrive,” he shared, underlining his desire to break free from familiar patterns and expectations.

Another important reason, Arijit revealed, is his wish to make space for new voices in the industry.

Expressing curiosity and admiration for emerging talent, he said he wants to hear new singers who can genuinely inspire him and push him creatively. This, he suggested, is part of his evolution as an artist rather than a retreat from music itself.

Reassuring fans, Arijit made it clear that he is not quitting music altogether.

He said he remains deeply grateful for the love he has received over the years and will continue learning, creating, and making music independently. “I am a fan of quality music and will be focusing on learning more and creating independently as a small artist in the future,” he wrote.

The singer also confirmed that he will honour all existing playback commitments, meaning audiences may still hear his voice in upcoming releases this year.

However, he will not be taking on any new playback singing projects going forward. “Just to clarify, I won’t cease making music,” he added.

On Tuesday, in a New Year message to fans, Arijit officially announced his decision to stop accepting new playback offers, calling it the end of a remarkable journey.

His most recent playback song is Maatrubhumi from the film Battle of Galwan. While details about his independent projects remain under wraps, Arijit has confirmed that he will continue performing live and focusing on music beyond the playback space.
