5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Telangana

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake was reported in Telangana’s Mulugu district on Wednesday morning, according to the National Center for Seismology. The tremors were reported in Hyderabad as well. The quake struck at 7:27 am, causing panic among residents.

So far, there are no reports of casualties or major damage. The authorities are assessing the situation and the residents in the region were advised to stay alert and avoid crowded or unsafe structures during earthquakes.

“EQ of M: 5.3, On: 04/12/2024 07:27:02 IST, Lat: 18.44 N, Long: 80.24 E, Depth: 40 Km, Location: Mulugu, Telangana,” the National Center for Seismology posted on X.

The earthquake with a variation in magnitude was felt in Warangal, Kothagudem, Bhadrachalam, Khammam and other areas from 7:27 am to 7:30 am, reports the Telangana Today.

Meanwhile, minor tremors were felt in BHEL, RC Puram and Sangareddy district at 7:30 am. Many regions of the erstwhile Karimnagar district have also witnessed tremors on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, the state of Telangana is situated in Zone II, a low-intensity seismic zone. India has four seismic zones in total, with Zone V being the highest intensity and Zone II the lowest.

Meanwhile, on November 30, an earthquake magnitude of 2.9 jolted Assam’s Krabi Anglong. According to the NCS, the tremor was recorded at around 2:40 am and was centered in the Karbi Anglong region at a depth of 25 km. Similarly, on November 28, an earthquake magnitude of 5.8 hit Jammu and Kashmir, however, there were no reports of any loss of life or damage to property.

The epicenter of the quake was in Afghanistan at a latitude of 36.49 degrees north and longitude of 71.27 degrees east, at a depth of 165 km, officials said.
