The Indore police have filed an FIR against the social media handlers of Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Kamal Nath, and Arun Yadav. The FIR was filed after the Congress leaders shared a social media post that accused the Madhya Pradesh BJP government of corruption.

The post in question alleged that the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh was a “50% commission government,” meaning that contractors had to pay a 50% commission to government officials in order to get work done. This allegation is similar to the “40% commission government” tag that was used against the BJP government in Karnataka during the last state elections. That tag proved to be effective in branding the BJP government as corrupt, and it helped the Congress party win the election.

On August 11, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, general secretary of the All India Congress Committee in charge of Uttar Pradesh ,had claimed on X, formerly Twitter, after sharing a news item from a newspaper that a union of contractors from Madhya Pradesh had written a letter to the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, complaining that their bills are cleared only after paying 50 per cent commission.

“The corrupt BJP government in Karnataka used to collect 40% commission. In Madhya Pradesh, BJP has gone ahead by breaking its own record of corruption. People of Karnataka ousted the 40% commission government, now the people of Madhya Pradesh will remove the 50% commission government from power,” she alleged in the post.

Responding to the allegations, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Dr Narottam Mishra denied the corruption charges. He asked Priyanka Gandhi to prove the allegations of the ‘false tweet’, otherwise face action.

“In Madhya Pradesh, the Congress is doing politics without any issue with a disgusting mentality. State Congress leaders first got Rahul Gandhi to lie and now got Priyanka Gandhi to tweet falsely. Priyanka ji, give proof of your tweets, otherwise we have all options open for action,” Dr Mishra said in a tweet.

The FIR was based on a complaint by Nimesh Pathak, an Indore-based BJP legal cell worker. It was filed at Sanyogitaganj in Indore under sections 420 and 469 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the Indore Police, the FIR has been registered against “accused Gyanendra Awasthi and handlers of Twitter account @MPArun Yadav, @OfficeOfKNath @priyankagandhi” after “this fake letter has also been made viral on social media”.
