Air India cancel flights to Tokyo due to the “inclement weather warning” in the country. The warning came amidst the concern over approaching Typhoon Ampil in the eastern Japan. Air India announced that flights AI306 and AI307 on the Delhi-Narita-Delhi sector are cancelled.
The airlines announced that customers with confirmed booking will be offered a one-time waiver on rescheduling and full refunds for cancellation.

Several countries cancelled flights fearing the Typhoon. Reportedly, over 470 domestic flights to and from Haneda, and Narita were cancelled on Friday.

Typhoon Ampil, also known as Typhoon No. 7 – as it is the seventh Typhoon to hit the country this year, was approaching the Ogasawara Islands on Thursday. Media report that suggest that the Typhoon is expected to move northward on Friday. Rainfall in the southern Kanto region, including Tokyo, is likely to reach as high as 300 millimeters over a 24-hour period by Friday 6 p.m., according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
Other countries also cancelled flights. Several flights between Singapore and Tokyo have been cancelled.

UAE airlines also cancelled flights. “Etihad Airways is closely monitoring the progression of Typhoon Ampil, which is expected to impact operations at Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) on August 16, 2024. Currently, Etihad flights to and from Tokyo are scheduled to operate as planned but may experience delays or disruptions. We will communicate any changes to impacted guests as soon as possible,” spokesperson of Abu Dhabi-based airline said in a statement
East Japan Railway Company also noted possible delays and cancellations of services for the Tohoku, Joetsu, Hokuriku, Akita, and Yamagata Shinkansen lines in the region.
