Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge today slammed Prime Minister Modi for his silence on the crucial issues, noting that “arrogance remains even after moral and political defeat” in the first meeting of the 18th Lok Sabha today. He was referring to the recently held Lok Sabha elections, in which the BJP-led NDA tally was significantly plummeted against the celebrated promise of 400 seats.

Taking to X, after the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, the Congress leader listed out the important issues that gripped the country in the recent past, which the Prime Minister does not touch on in his “longer than usual customary address.” Stating that the Prime Minister did not take any responsibility for the massive rigging and corruption of his government, Kharge said he would only show sympathy for the youth regarding the paper leak in the NEET and other recruitment examinations.

The Congress president then said the Prime Minister remained silent about the recent train accident in West Bengal and the mismanagement of the railways.

The Congress leader further mentioned the Manipur violence, saying that the Prime Minister did not bother to visit the state nor did he express any concern about the fresh violence in his speech today. The state has been reeling from violence for the last 13 months.

The Congress chief then slammed the Prime Minister for keeping mum on “Assam and the Northeast floods, the backbreaking price rise, the historic fall of the rupee, as well as the exit poll-stock market scam.” Kharge also criticised the Prime Minister for the long-pending census while questioning his silence on the caste census.

In his post, the Congress chief said that the Prime Minister was reminding them of the 50-year-old emergency, forgetting the last ten years of undeclared emergency. Kharge said the undeclared emergency was ended by people with their mandate against the Prime Minister.  By mandate Congress chief was referring to the recently held Lok Sabha elections, in which the BJP-led NDA tally was significantly reduced.

“Despite this, if he has become the Prime Minister, then he should work. ‘People need substance, not slogans’—remember this yourself. The opposition and India Janbandhan want consensus in Parliament; we will keep raising the voice of the people in the House, on the streets, and before everyone. We will protect the Constitution! Long live Indian democracy!” Mallikarjun Kharge wrote.

Notably, after the first sitting today, opposition leaders including Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi were seen holding up copies of the Constitution and raising slogans.
