Shehla Rashid, former Vice-President of JNU Students Union, human rights activist, and once a staunch critic of PM Modi-led BJP government citing current Supreme Court judgment on the abrogation of Article 370, said “it results in some closure, and allows the people of J&K to move on.”

Shehla Rashid, supporting the verdict, said on social media platform X: “I hope that the Supreme Court judgment on Article 370 results in some closure, and allows the people of J&K to move on. As Justice Kaul said, the past is past, but the future awaits us. Prayers for peace, prosperity, and harmony.”

Shehla Rashid in her previous X posts, jotted down the verdict in points enumerating what had Court said. Interestingly, Shehla Rashid and IAS officer Shah Faesal were among the 23 petitioners who had moved the Supreme Court challenging Government”s decision of the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. However, in July this year both submitted an application for withdrawing their names from the list of petitioners and the Court has approved. Recently, she extended credit to PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the “bloodless” political solution in Kashmir and also credited them along with Indian army and Jammu and Kashmir Police for “bringing peace to Kashmir.”

Similarly, Shah Faesal also on his X wrote in support of Supreme Courts decision as “Article 370 was no Noah”s Ark. It was an old, broken ship, that would have sunk us in the future.” He added that top Court has “affirmed once again that India is united and true empowerment is in being together.”

A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on Monday, delivering the historic verdict said that Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir was “a temporary provision” and the President has the power to reverse it. Therefore, the apex Court backed the Central Government”s decision of ending special status conferred to the state via Article 370.
