Bombay HC Express Concerns Over Air Pollution In Mumbai; Warns Of Delhi-Like Crisis
Mumbai, Maharashtra: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday expressed concerns over rising air pollution at construction sites in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The court warned that the city, known as the financial capital of India, could face an air quality crisis like Delhi if authorities fail to act decisively.
The court was hearing a suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) regarding the city’s worsening air quality. The court had earlier summoned the Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the member secretary of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to personally explain the inaction on the air quality concerns.

Hearing the case, the bench consisting of Chief Justice Shere Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad asked the officials to explain what immediate steps they had taken to safeguard the health of construction workers who were exposed to hazardous dust.
The chief justice pointed out that nothing remains under control as the situation is going out of hand. “We have seen it in Delhi in the last 2–5 years. Not just as officers of the court but as citizens, you have a duty to protect the environment,” the Chief Justice added, the Bar and Bench quoted.
