The Cauvery water sharing issue is simmering again between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, with Tamil Nadu moving to the Supreme Court for solution.

Earlier this week, on 10 August, the Cauvery Water Management Authority had met and during the deliberations, Karnataka had agreed to share 15,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for 15 days. The decision of the meeting was unanimous but the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan has now accused the Karnataka Government of not sharing water as usual, and that Karnataka now agreed to share only 8000 cusecs of water and that too, till 22 August only.

This has put the Tamil Nadu government on a tight situation, wanting to resort to Supreme Court.

In the wake of these developments, talking to reporters on this, the Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has said, they have decided to share 10 TMC of water to Tamil Nadu, and that, they were working to resolve the issue, adding that even Karnataka did not have enough water for their farmers. He further said, there was no need to approach the Supreme Court on this, as it was the government’s responsibility to take care of the farmers on their respective sides without putting them in distress.

With the Tamil Nadu government’s move to filing its application, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister said that the state shall consult with its legal experts on this. The Hindustan Rimes reported him saying “We are open about things, we don”t want to get into any fight, we are all like brothers.”
