Congress President On Why ‘Black Paper Against Government’

Ahead of the tabling of the “white paper” on economy in the ongoing budget session of Parliament, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge released a “black paper” against the Modi government to highlight the failures.

At a press conference in the National Capital, Kharge noted that the Congress had decided to bring out a “Black Paper”, titled “10 Saal Anyay Kaal”, to inform the public about the failures of the government. “Whenever we speak about the failures of the government, it is not given importance,” he said.

“There is a danger to democracy in the country…In the last ten years, 411 MLAs were taken on there by the BJP. They toppled so many Congress governments. They are finishing democracy,” said Kharge.

Kharge stated that while Congress was raising major issues such as unemployment and farmer”s distress, which the BJP never addresses. The Congress President added that the ruling government discriminates against non-BJP states including Kerala, Karnataka, and Telangana. “Centre does not disburse required funds to the non-BJP states and instead argues that allocated funds were not spent. But this is not how it works…the additional funds must be allocated immediately as it gets utilized (by the state) to ensure smooth flow of work,” Kharge said.

“Whenever PM Modi presents his views in Parliament, he hides his failures,” Kharge stated.

He said that the BJP of comparing inflation prices with Congress, “They compare during the Nehru government, Indira Gandhi”s government. What you are doing today is what matters. You are ruling today. What steps have you taken to control rising inflation? That is important.”

He also accused BJP of importing things from outside to benefit their friends. He added that there are laws in place to control the prices of essential items.

The Modi government had earlier announced in the Union Budget presented on February 1 that a “White Paper” will be brought out to compare the Congress-led UPA government”s 10 years of performance with the 10 years of BJP-led NDA government.

Kharge said that the Congress ensured India”s independence and in 2024 and will take the nation out of the BJP”s “darkness of justice”.
