Crucial BJP Election Body Meeting Today, PM Modi To Attend

BJP”s central election committee will meet today evening to discuss the preparations for upcoming assembly elections to five states. Touted as the semi-finals to the Lok Sabha election 2024, the ruling party”s decision to call the apex body meeting early shows how the party is looking at the crucial elections set to happen in the last quarter of 2023. The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior BJP leaders.

Assembly elections will be held in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram later this year.

Normally, the central election committee of BJP meets after the election dates announced to discuss the election strategy including the selection of candidates for each constituency. According to reports, BJP”s debacle in Karnataka state elections has influenced advancing the meeting before the Election Commission announcing the dates.

BJP, considered one of the largest political parties in the world, had faced a thumbing defeat in Karnataka by the hands of Congress. Reports said the BJP, through this meeting, wants to decide candidates for the constituencies where the chances of winning the election are weak.

Among the five states going to polls this year, three states are governed by opposition and one by the BJP. Opposition states are Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan (both is under the Congress) and Telangana (under K. Chandrashekar Rao’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi). Among other states, Madhya Pradesh is ruled by BJP and Mizoram is under BJP’s partner MNF that voted against ally BJP in the Manipur no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha citing BJP mishandling of the situation in the northeastern state.

Apart from PM Modi, the meeting will be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, party president JP Nadda and other members of the central election committee.
