Remya, a mother of seven-month old girl died by suicide on Sunday, following harsh online shaming and humiliation. A video on the miraculous rescue of her daughter after slipping from her hands, and falling from a fourth-floor balcony of the apartment went viral in April. Though residents quickly acted to the situation and saved the baby, on social media platforms she was subjected to vicious cyber attack.
The netizens accused her of negligence and “carelessness”. Ramya”s family informed the media that she had been undergoing treatment for postpartum depression since the birth of the second child, the News Minute reports. After the near-tragic incident concerning the baby, her condition got worsened. Receiving humiliations from near ones and on social media, she was also undergoing online counselling for depression, media reports add.
Along with two children, Ramya reached her paternal home Karamadai in Coimbatore two weeks ago. On Sunday, her parents had left her alone in the house and went to attend a function. Upon their return, they found her hanging at the house. Though they hurriedly took her to the nearby hospital, she was declared brought dead.
Remya worked in an IT company in Chennai. Her husband Venkatesh is also an IT professional. The couple has five-year old son as well.
