Vijayapura, Karnataka: A shocking video went viral where three Dalit labourers in the Vijayapura district were beaten with sticks and iron rods for taking extra leave. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators.
Condemning the brutal incident that reportedly took place on Monday, MB Patil, the Minister for Large and Medium Industries, highlighted that all three victims belonged to the Dalit community.

“I have discussed the matter with the Deputy Commissioner as well. The accused, Khemu Rathod, had attempted to reach a compromise with the victims. However, no leniency will be shown, and stringent action will be taken to ensure justice,” he added.

Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, including Khemu Rathod, the owner of the brick factory, and his relative, whose identity is yet to be confirmed.
According to Vijayapura SP Laxman Nimbargi, a complaint was filed, and two people were immediately arrested after. He also added that three other accused involved in the case will be apprehended soon.
Reportedly, the victims had gone to their native villages to celebrate the Sankranti festival and returned to work two days late.
The victims have been identified as Sadashiva Madara, S. Babaladi, and Umesha Madara. All belong to Chakkaliki village in Karnataka’s Bagalkot district.

As per media reports, the incident occurred at a brick factory near Star Chowk in the Gandhinagar locality near Vijayapura city. When the workers didn’t come to work for two days, Khemu Rathod reportedly verbally abused them first.
Even when the workers ensured the completion of the pending work, the furious Rathod tied the Dalit workers with ropes and had them beaten up ruthlessly with an iron pipe.
