Karnataka: Masked Men Loots SBI Bank In Daylight; Cash & Gold Worth Over Rs 20 Crore Stolen

Vijayapura, Karnataka: Dressed in military uniform, a gang of five masked men barged into an SBI bank branch and looted the facility at Chadchan town in Vijayapura on September 16, Tuesday evening. The robbers tied up the staff, threatened the manager, cashier and other employees with dire consequences as they took away the valuables, including cash and gold, from the bank.

As per reports, cash and gold worth over Rs 20 crores were looted, though the exact amount is yet to be confirmed.

The robbers entered the bank on the pretext of opening a current bank account, and were armed with knives and country-made pistols, and immediately gained control over the employees. After the culprits fled the scene with the looted items, police rushed to the spot and began the probe. Vijaypura Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi said that further investigation is underway and all efforts are being taken to nab the suspects.

After receiving the information, police along with dog squad reached the spot and took finger print and CCTV footages. The police also questioned the bank staff individually.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has stated that the car used in the crime has been traced. He added that he had given instructions to the district SP to nab the culprits and alert all concerned officials. “It is the responsibility of each bank to appoint its own security staff. Police will provide support, but I have instructed that preventive measures be taken to avoid a recurrence of such incidents,” Siddaramaiah said.
