Dilli Chalo March Resumes As Farmers Reject Centre’s New Proposal On MSP

Calling the new proposal tabled by the central government “an eyewash”, the farmer”s leaders are all set to relaunch the Dilli Chalo march on Wednesday. The farmers” union leaders have asked the central government to convene a special session of Parliament and pass a bill to guarantee minimum support price for 23 crops.

The demand has come just after a day the farmer leaders rejected the government’s new proposal for a 5-year agreement for Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement of pulses, maize, and cotton, reports The Economic Times.

The announcement regarding the rejection of the proposal was made by Jagjit Singh Dallewal, the convener of Samyuktha Kisan Morcha (SKM). The SKM has announced that they would hold a black flag protest outside BJP MP”s houses, farmers from Haryana to join the protest and demand MSP from bajra and oilseeds, reports The Newsclick.

The fourth round of meetings was held in Chandigarh after the first three on February 8, 12 and 15 went inconclusive.

The Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda on late Tuesday appealed to the farmers to maintain peace after the farmers announced to resume the agitation on Wednesday.

The farmers will be led by two umbrella bodies-the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM)- representing 200 farm unions.

As the farmers geared up to resume their ‘Dilli Chalo’ march, the Delhi police on Tuesday directed security personnel deployed at the city’s Tikri, Singhu, and Ghazipur border points to stay alert. The Singhu and Tikri borders with the state of Haryana has sealed its borders.

As per the statement of the farmer leaders to the media, they have announced that they will resume the march from 11 am on February 21, reports ANI. During the press conference, the farmer leader Pander also referring to the injustice being launched out at the protesting farmers at the Hands of the Haryana police, said, “The way farmers were treated at the (Shambhu) border is condemnable”.

Apart from this, the Haryana farmers will also join the ongoing protest with farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni announcing the same. The Haryana farmers on February 19 have announced that they will join the protest if the government does not include oilseeds and bajra for procurement in their proposal for MSP.
