India and it”s capital is all set to convene the G20 Leaders” Summit, for the first time. The meetings began at 9.30 am on Saturday September 9 and 43 Heads of Delegations – the largest ever in the G20 – will participate for the 18th G20 Summit at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi”s Pragati Maidan.
The two-day G20 summit that kicked off today will be having international leaders representing over 60% of the world”s population in one place. US President Joe Biden, Britain”s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are some of the leaders who gather for the summit under India”s presidency.
The event includes three major sessions: One Earth, One Family, and One Future, named after the motto of the summit.
“During the G20 Summit, I will be chairing Sessions on ‘One Earth’, ‘One Family’ and ‘One Future’, covering a range of issues of prime concern to the world community. These include furthering strong, sustainable, inclusive and balanced growth”, said Prime Minister Modi on X (formerly Twitter).
“We attach immense priority to futuristic sectors such as technological transformation and digital public infrastructure. We will also collectively work to further gender equality, women empowerment and ensure world peace”, he added.

Prime Minister also expressed his confidence that the conclave will chart a new path in human-centric and inclusive development.
“It is my firm belief that the the New Delhi G20 Summit will chart a new path in the human-centric and inclusive development”, he said on X.

Mr Modi also held bilateral meetings with Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina before hosting a dinner for US President Joe Biden.
“The meetings will give an opportunity to review India”s bilateral ties with these nations and further strengthen developmental cooperation”, said Mr Modi on X after after the bilateral meetings at his residence.

Tight security is in place and New Delhi is partly emptied of people for the mega world event.
Chinese President Xi Jinping decided to skip the summit and sent his Premier Li Qiang instead. Even though there is no official reason for Xi”s absence, it is said to be of India-China”s prevailing border dispute.
“The New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, which many of you will see post the Summit, you will see it as a voice of the Global South and the developing countries. No document in the world would have such a strong voice for the Global South and the developing countries as the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration”, said India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kan addressing a press conference.
“We started our Presidency… with a meeting of the voice of the Global South. We got the perspective of 125 leaders and then we remain focused on the perspective of the Global South and the requirements of the developing countries”, he added.
Besides the main G20 Sessions, Prime Minister Modi will be hosting several sideline, bilateral meetings with the visiting Heads of State and governments and the other leaders.
President Droupadi Murmu will host a dinner on Saturday for the Summit leaders. There will be a visit to Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi and a programme for the spouses.
Schedule of G20 Summit 2023
According to the Hindustan Times, India has scheduled its New Delhi G20 Summit for two days comprising various sessions where the top leaders could interact. Here”s the full schedule of the G20 Summit 2023:
Day 1 – September 9
- 9:30am to 10:30am: Arrival of leaders and heads of delegations at the Bharat Mandapam. It will be followed by a welcome photograph with the Prime Minister at Tree of Life Foyer. Then leaders and heads of delegation will assemble in Leaders” Lounge, Level 2 at Bharat Mandapam.
- 10:30am to 1:30pm: The first session, called “One Earth,” will take place at the Summit Hall at Bharat Mandapam, followed by a working lunch.
- 13:30am to 3:30pm: Time for various bilateral meetings
- 3:30pm to 4:45pm: The second session, “One Family,” will take place in the summit venue after which the leaders return to their hotels.
- 7pm to 8pm: Arrival of leaders and heads of delegation for dinner. It will begin with a welcome photograph on arrival.
- 8pm to 9pm: Dinner and talks
- 9pm to 9:45pm: Leaders and heads of delegation will assemble in the Leaders” Lounge at Bharat Mandapam to bring the day to a close.
Day 2 – September 10
- 8:15am to 9am: Arrival of leaders and heads of delegations in their individual motorcades at Rajghat and a signing of the peace wall inside the Leaders” Lounge at Rajghat.
- 9am to 9:20am: World leaders to lay wreaths at Mahatma Gandhi”s Samadhi followed by a live performance of Mahatma Gandhi”s favourite devotional songs. Subsequently, leaders and heads of delegations will move to the Bharat Mandapam”s Leaders” Lounge.
- 9:40am to 10:15am: Arrival of leaders and heads of delegation at Bharat Mandapam
- 10:15am -10:30am: Tree planting ceremony at Bharat Mandapam”s South Plaza.
- 10:30am to 12:30pm: The third session of the summit, called “One Future”, will take place at the venue followed by the adoption of the New Delhi Leaders” Declaration.
