World Leaders Arrives, Capital Ready To Host G20 Summit

New Delhi is all set to host mega G20 Summit as the two-day meeting of some of world”s powerful leaders commences on September 9. Various leaders including US President Joe Biden and UK Prime minister Rishi Sunak will attend the summit.

The summit will be held in Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan. The G20, also known as the Group of Twenty, is a forum comprised of 19 individual countries and the European Union. A wide range of topics, reflecting the evolving global landscape and India”s specific focus areas will be discussed this year.

A video has been posted by G20 India Chief coordinator Harsh V Shringla, a short preview of the delegation offices on X.

On September 10, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pass G20 Presidency baton to Brazilian President Lula, officially ushering in Brazil”s term as the G20 Presidency, set to commence on December 1.

Several infrastructure beautifications work have been done to host the summit.

US President Joe Biden tweeted, “I’m headed to the G20 – the premier forum for international economic cooperation – focused on making progress on Americans” priorities, delivering for developing nations, and showing our commitment to the G20 as a forum that can deliver. Every time we engage, we get better.”

French President Emmanuel Macron, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, have confirmed their attendance in the event.

Among the leaders arriving on Friday are — US President Biden, UK”s Sunak, Japan”s Kishida, Bangladesh”s Sheikh Hasina, Italy”s Giorgia Meloni, China”s Premier Li Qiang, Australia”s Albanese and UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in New Delhi will be a culmination of all the G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year among ministers, senior officials, and civil societies.

At the same time, the absence of Russian President Vladmir Putin in the G20 is said to be a consequence of Moscow”s current tensions with the G7, Former Deputy National Advisor and Ambassador Pankaj Saran said on Thursday while speaking to ANI.

Delhi police have tightened the security arrangement in the national capital. The Centre has also assigned responsibilities to different Union ministers of state to welcome the dignitaries.

The G20 grouping comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union.
