Gurugram Man Fired After Viral ‘Rs 370 Biryani’ Remark

A 23-year-old web developer from Gurugram, Himanshu Jangra, has been fired from his job after a viral video of his comments during a stand-up comedy show sparked widespread outrage on social media.

The controversy began after comedian Pranit More shared a clip from one of his performances featuring an interaction with Jangra.

In the video, Jangra recalled a date when he spent Rs 370 on biryani for a woman. He then made remarks suggesting he expected something in return for having paid for the meal.

His comments, including a statement that he would “recover” the money he spent, were widely criticised online as misogynistic and reflective of an entitled attitude towards women.

Jangra also mentioned trying to convince the woman to accompany him to a dark park despite her discomfort, further fuelling criticism.

The clip quickly went viral, triggering strong reactions across social media platforms. Many users identified Jangra’s employer, Gurugram-based Starvik Design, and urged the company to take action against him.

Responding to the controversy, Starvik Design founder Vivek Vishwakarma released a video statement confirming that Jangra had been terminated from the company.

He said an internal review was conducted and female employees were consulted. According to Vishwakarma, there were no complaints about Jangra’s behaviour inside the workplace.

However, he stated that the controversy had begun affecting the company and its work environment. He also clarified that the views expressed in the viral clip did not reflect the values of the organisation.

“The statements shown in those clips are offensive. They are not something I agree with. They are not something our company stands for,” Vishwakarma said.

Following the company’s decision, many social media users welcomed the move, describing it as accountability for comments that they believed promoted harmful attitudes towards women.
