Tamil Nadu Sports Minister and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin reiterated his stance on “Sanatana Dharma” responding to Madras High Court”s recent observation. The High Court criticised Police in its failure to take action against Mr Stalin and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P K Sekarbabu as “dereliction of duty.” Justice G Jayachandran, in an order dated on October 31, said: “No one can expect courts to aid them to propagate ideas to create ill will among the public.”
Meanwhile, DMK leader stressing his earlier point said that he hadn”t said anything wrong, and spoke his ideology. He said that he is ready to face consequences. “I haven’t said anything wrong. What I said was right and I’ll face it legally.. I will not change my statement. I have spoken my ideology. I’ve not spoken more than what Ambedkar, Periyar or Thirumavalavan had said. I can be an MLA, a Minister or a Youth Wing Secretary and tomorrow I maybe not. But being a human is more important,” India Today quotes as he is saying.
Adding further, DMK leader said that Sanatana is a several hundred years old issue, and should oppose it forever.
It was in September, while addressing a conference organised by Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers Artists Association, Mr Stalin equated Sanatana Dharma to “Dengue, Malaria, and Corona,” and demanded for its elimination from the society.
“A few things cannot be opposed, that should be abolished only. We can’t oppose dengue, mosquitoes, malaria and corona. We have to eradicate this. That’s how we have to eradicate Sanatana. Rather opposing Sanatan, it should be eradicated,” DMK leader has said.
His comment has erupted row, and evoked sharp criticism from BJP and its national leaders.
