The life in Chennai has once again halted due to incessant heavy rain spells on Monday. The city is currently grappling with the ferocity of cyclone Michaung. Amid the ongoing flood and disruption, Tamil actor Vishal has taken to his X handle questioning the mayor of the city, Priya Rajan regarding the storm water drain project which was implemented to prevent water from flooding.

“I wonder if the entire storm water drain project was meant for Singapore or Chennai?” he wrote on X.

The storm water project in Chennai plays a crucial role in managing the rainwater and preventing flooding in urban areas. Since Chennai being a flood prone region, it has integrated stormwater drainage facilities.

The actor also brought into notice that nothing has changed much after facing 2015 flood which paralysed the city for over a month. The whole city is facing difficulty as the transportation system is disrupted and power outages being reported in several regions. So far, the rain has claimed five lives.

Being completely dissatisfied with the way the situation is being delt, the actor wrote, “Dear Ms Priya Rajan (Mayor of Chennai) and to one & all other officers of Greater Chennai Corporation including the Commissioner. Hope you all are safe & sound with your families & water especially drainage water not entering your houses & most importantly hope you have unconditional supply of food & electricity.”

He then that said he was just checking as a voter because as citizens living in the same city as the mayor is “we are not in the same position” He then added that people would continue to help this time around also for sure with food supplies and water.

He wrote, “but I guess this time would love to see all the representatives of each constituency come out & do the needful & instill hope & help rather than fear & distress. “

The actor concluded his statement with, “I put my head down in shame as I write to you. Awaiting not a miracle but wat is called duty to Citizens. God Bless.”

The heavy rain in Chennai also disrupted flight operations at Chennai airport. Many flights were reported cancelled while others were diverted as the entire runway and airplane parking zone of the Chennai is flooded with water.

As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the severe cyclonic storm Michuang was at 100 km east-northeast of Chennai. It continued to move northwards at 10 kmph speed. It is likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam close to Bapatla during the forenoon of December 5 as ‘severe cyclonic storm’.
