The Indian Embassy in Kuwait deleted a post from social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The post contained pictures of officials posing with the coffins carrying the mortal remains of the 45 Indians who died in the tragic fire incident in Kuwait. The Picture showed MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh and other officials posing for a picture with the coffins placed inside a special IAF aircraft.

As per ANI, the post read, MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh, who coordinated with Kuwaiti authorities to ensure swift repatriation, is onboard the aircraft.

The post garnered wide criticism from netizens who called the photo insensitive. One of the X user said the photo was unnecessary as the tragedy was heartbreaking and over 45 Indians lost their lives. Another user the news would be still believed even without showing pictures with coffins. While one user called the photo “ridiculous”, another asked “don’t they know the sensitivity?”

 

The special aircraft carrying the body landed in Cochin International Airport at Friday 10:30 am. The victims include seven from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh, one each from Bihar, Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Haryana, Punjab, and West Bengal, and 23 from Kerala.

Meanwhile, Kerala health Minister Veena George alleged that her plan to travel to Kuwait to assist in the repatriation of the bodies of 23 Keralites was thwarted by the Ministry of External Affairs. Speaking to reporters, Veena George said, “We only sought permission to travel to Kuwait so as to extend some relief to the families of the deceased and the injured. But the Union government denied it”.

Reportedly, she waited for hours at the Cochin International Airport for the permission from the Ministry of External Affairs.

Opposition leader of Kerala, V D Satheeshan said “It is unfortunate that the state health minister was denied permission. A representative of the state would have helped to coordinate the relief efforts”.

On the other hand, BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar defended the Central government’s decision and said, “Tragedies like Kuwait are not for CPM sightseeing. PM Narendra Modi ji’s govt has on every such tragedy responded fast – bodies being flown back to Kerala. Kirti Vardhan Singh there on ground. Time is to give solace to families who lost loved ones”.
