IPS Couple's Promotion: Vandita Pandey Takes Charges As Dindigul Range DIG

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu police force recently went through a major reshuffle as the state government issued transfers to at least 56 police officers, with several receiving promotions. Two among them are Vandita Pandey IPS and her husband Varun Kumar IPS. Both the 20211 batch officers have been promoted together to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) position.

Previously the Superintendent of Police of Pudukottai district, Vandita Pandey, after being promoted, took charge as the new DGP of Dindigul on Friday, while her husband, Varun Kumar, has been posted as DIG of Trichy. He was the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Trichy till he was promoted.

The IPS couple, very active on social media platforms with good fan followings, were from the same batch. While Varun Kumar is a Tamil Nadu native, Vandita Pandey hails from Uttar Pradesh. The IPS couple shares their personal lives with others on their social platforms, engaging with their followers. The followers have been congratulating the couple on their promotions.

Notably, in August, the couple grabbed headlines when some alleged fake handles made objectionable comments about the IPS officers on their social media. The couple then had sent a notice claiming Rs two crore compensation for defamation and mental torture, according to a report by Raksha News

A case was also registered against three NTK activists in Trichy Cyber Police. The couple alleged that the accused used fake accounts to spread false information about them. The case is underway.

However, the massive overhaul in Tamil Nadu police includes 4 Additional Director Generals of Police (ADGP): Mahesh Kumar Agarwal, G Venkataraman, Vineet Dev Wankhede, and Sanjay Mathur, who are being promoted to the post of Director General of Police (DGP). Inspector General of Police (IGP) R. Dinakaran and Sonal V. Mishra have been promoted to the ADGP rank.

There have been other overhauls too, including the transfer of former Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Saroj Kumar Thakur back to the post of Jt. CP (Headquarters) at Police Headquarters in Greater Chennai.
