Despite the devastating war in Gaza and amidst the reports of India supplying weapons to Israel, an advertisement has been published on Indian newspapers on August 13, calling in Indian citizens for home-based caregiver position in Israel.
The advertisement was published under Skill India, offering a monthly salary starting from INR 1,30,000. The country has announced the opening of 5000 home-based caregiver positions.

The ads further added that the applicant must meet specific eligibility criteria including an age limit between 25-25, minimum qualification of 10th pass, basic or good English proficiency, and a passport validity of minimum 3 years.
The job required experience, a diploma, and certification was also given along with the ad. However, it is to be highlighted that the candidate must not have worked previously in Israel nor should have a spouse, parents, or children currently working or residing in the country.
“Selection and rejection decision will made exclusively by Israeli employer. NSDC is not the employer of caregiver workers. NSDC is only facilitator,” it added.
The NSDC is a public limited company set up by the finance minister under the public-private partnership (PPP) model and provides skill development and vocational training to Indian workers.
However, the recent work calls in Israel was questioned pointing out how a country could send in workers without adequate guarantee for their safety. Indian embassy had earlier issued an advisory on March 5 asking the Indian nationals in the region affected by the war to move to safer areas.
Recently, the reports on India’s arms exports to Israel amid the Gaza conflict sparked controversy. Historically, India had always a balanced stance on issues in the Middle East. However, the deepening of the ties with Israel with the arms exports may risk straining relations with Arab countries and Iran.
