In Karnataka, a group of medical students of Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) were suspended for 10 days over making dancing reels in the institution”s premises. On Saturday, the suspension notice was issued by GIMS director Dr. Basavaraja Bommanahalli.

The medical students can be seen, in now viral video, dancing to Bollywood and Kollywood music within the premises of the hospital, sparking a discourse on professionalism and decorum expected within medical institutions.

As per a South First reporthe director of the institute claimed, “The group also includes 15 house surgeons, set to graduate in the next few months. We conducted an inquiry and found that they created this reel as part of their pre-graduation celebrations.”

The students can be seen acting and dancing to a popular Kannada song from the movie Premaloka and a Hindi song from the Bollywood film Mohra,

Many of the students have completed their MBBS course and are presently undertaking their house surgeon course at the hospital.

The Director stated that the students recorded the videos as part of their last day at the institution, however, permissions were not taken from the authorities for the same.

The suspension will also result in a ten-day delay in some of the students postings. The director also stated that appropriate action will be taken against other students as well.

The incident follows shortly after a medical doctor was suspended over shooting a pre-wedding photoshoot within the operation theatre at Bharamasagara hospital in Chitradurga district, Karnataka.

Such incidents have drawn criticism from the public and medical community, questioning the professional conduct. However, some netizens have also criticized the hospital authorities for their strict response as the students cannot be seen disturbing the hospital environment.
