The Kshatriya Karni Sena announced a “reward” of Rs 1.11 crore to any police officer who would encounter jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The gangster made headlines after he took responsibility for the murder of Maharashtra NCP leader and former minister Baba Siddique.

Shekhawat further said that India needed a nation free from fear and terror. He added that Bishnoi “killed our precious gem and heritage, Amar Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi Ji.”

Notably, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi served as the chief of Karni Sena before he was shot dead in Jaipur by unidentified people on December 5 last year. Shortly after the murder, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for it.

Bishnoi is currently held in Gujarat’s Sabarmati jail for a cross-border smuggling case. He has been named in the firing case outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence in April.

Despite several attempts, Mumbai Police cannot take Bishnoi into their custody because his transfer was barred by an order from BJP’s Amit Shah-led Ministry of Home Affairs under Section 268 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) which states that no state or agency can seek his custody for a year. The order was supposed to end in August this year, however, it has reportedly been extended for another year.

Meanwhile, the gangster reportedly received an offer to contest the Maharashtra Assembly elections from the Uttar Bharatiya Vikas Sena (UBVS) political party. According to media reports, Sunil Shukla, the national president of UBVS, wrote a letter to Bishnoi, requesting him to run in the Maharashtra elections.

As per his letter, Shukla expressed pride in Bishnoi’s north Indian roots and wishes him to work for the party which represents the rights of North Indians across India, especially Maharashtra.
