Following the recent killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique on October 12, the Mumbai police has been unbale to get custody of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi since his gang took responsibility for firing outside actor Salman Khan’s house in April. Bishnoi is currently in Gujarat’s Sabarmati jail.
According to NDTV sources, since the firing in April, the Mumbai Police filed multiple applications seeking custody of the gangster. However, the applications were denied because his transfer was barred by an order from BJP’s Amit Shah-led Ministry of Home Affairs.

In August last year, Bishnoi was moved from Tihar jail in Delhi to Sabarmati in connection with a drug smuggling case.
The Home Ministry issued an order under Section 268 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) stating that no state or agency can seek his custody for a year. Under the section, the government can bar the movement of prisoners to maintain law and order.
The order was supposed to end in August this year, however, it has reportedly been extended for another year.
In 2022, the Bishnoi gang hit headlines after they claimed responsibility for killing Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala.

Following the shooting of Baba Siddique, stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui allegedly received threats from the criminal gang led by Bishnoi. A police officer has said that they have received the information about the potential threat to the comedian from the gang, although, the reason remains unclear. The comedian’s security has been increased after the threat.
