Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh: The death of Ramchandra Maurya, a resident of Hulasipurva village of Majhgain police station of Lakhimpur Kheri, is creating tension between Police and villagers in the area. The family accused that Maurya died after being beaten in custody at Nighasan police station in Kheri district on Monday evening. Meanwhile, Police argued that Maurya died of a heart attack while running away during the raid.
The body of Maurya has not been cremated yet. The family is holding protest by sitting with the dead body. They are demanding action against the accused policemen. There is also demand for a job for one member and compensation of Rs 30 lakh.

The video of Circle Officer P.P. Singh talking to the family is now going viral. “Neither Majhgai police station should be suspended, nor Nighasan police station should be suspended, nor should we give you 30 lakh rupees. You can keep the dead body for as many days as you want. We are leaving from here. Keep it for 3 days, 4 days as long as you want,” he told to the protesting family.
Sharing the video on X, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief wrote, “BJP is a heartless party.”

According to Maurya’s family, he had left home along with three others to the forest to collect firewood. It was then officers from Majhgai and Nighasan police stations detained him, alleging him of distilling illegal liquor. “They brought him to Nighasan police station, where they beat him,” his wife Poonam Devi told Times of India. When his condition deteriorated he was brought to the government hospital, but he had already dead, she added.

According to the police, Maurya used to make illegal liquor and Gangster Act has also been imposed against him. “Acting on a tip-off, we apprehended him in the forest with him in the forest with three others. He began sweating and frothing at the mouth before collapsing. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. He was never brought to the police station,” Circle officer Mahak Sharma told Times of India.
Refuting Police’s statement, Poonam asserted that her husband was healthy with no medical issues. The villagers also supported her claims. The policemen forcibly took Maurya’s body to Lakhimpur for autopsy, but the cause of the death has not been able to trace in the report, Navbharat Times reports.
