Following the death of three civilians in Jammu and Kashmir who were picked up by the Indian Army for questioning in relation to the recent ambush on the Army convoy, which killed four and injured some others, there were strong criticism over the handling of the soldiers towards the detainees. The video which went viral on social media showed people believed to be soldiers stripping and torturing the detainees. According to reports, with the high-level intervention from Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir police registered a first information report (FIR) on the death of the three men picked by the Army.

However, in the latest development on the matter, Army Chief General Manoj Pande asked the Army Commanders to “conduct operations in the most professional manner”

The Army chief exhorting the chiefs of commanders to “conduct the operation in the most professional manner” was released in a social media post shared by the Additional Directorate General of the Public Information (ADGPI) of the Indian Army.

“General Manoj Pande COAS visited Poonch sector and was given an update on the prevalent security situation. COAS interacted with commanders on the ground, exhorted them to conduct the operations in the most professional manner and remain resolute & steadfast against all challenges,” the post on X (formerly Twitter) reads.

The remark is a reference to the recent death of three out of nine men picked up by the Army for interrogation. After the family’s alleged the Army of the custodial death, the Army has said that they initiated an investigation. This was the first trip of the Army chief to the region, where the soldiers were ambushed by the terrorists.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the Army Chief reviewed the situation on the ground. Besides, the chief was also briefed about the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Poonch-Rajouri sectors. The death of the three civilians was also discussed.
