Congress MP Nakul Nath on Thursday openly denied the speculation that he and his father, a veteran Congress leader, Kamal Nath, would join the BJP. The rumours around both joining the BJP intensified earlier in February when several Congress leaders in Madhya Pradesh shifted to the saffron camp.
Addressing a public meeting at Navegaon in Chhindwara district, Nakul Nath said: “Lok Sabha polls are going to be held in the next one or one-and-a-half months. Lot of rumours are being spread by BJP people that Kamal Nath and I are going to the BJP. Let me make it clear that neither Kamal Nath nor Nakul Nath are going to join the BJP,” Hindustan Times quotes as Nakul Nath is saying.
Continuing further, taking to X Nakul Nath wrote: “Fearing their defeat in the upcoming elections, BJP people are spreading false rumors about us joining BJP.”
pic.twitter.com/qp5sgXb5So

On Tuesday, Kamal Nath told the reporters that rumours are run by the media. Dismissing the speculations, senior Congress leader said: “You (media) are saying this, and no one else is saying it. Have you ever heard this from my mouth? Is there any indication? Nothing. You (media) run this news (about switching sides), and then ask me about it. First, you (media) should refute it.”
Kamal Nath”s close associate and former minister Sajjan Singh Verma clarified that former parliamentarian is not quitting Congress and Nakul Nath will contest from Chhindwara Lok Sabha seat as the grand old party”s candidate.
Chhindwara has long remained Kamal Nath’s bastion since he became an MP in 1980, lost only once to Bjp, in a by-election in 1977. However, he regained it a year later. Kamal Nath held the seat for nine consecutive terms. However, in the previous Lok Sabha election, the BJP secured 28 out of 29 parliamentary seats in Madhya Pradesh, and Congress was able to secure only Chhindwara.
