At the opening ceremony of 29th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), Bollywood superstar Salman Khan said he was awestruck by seeing Mamata Banerjee’s modest house. In a light hearted moment of his speech, the super star compared the politician’s house with his own in Mumbai. The politician despite holding a prominent position resided in a smaller house than his own.

The 29th KIFF kicked off at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on Tuesday. The ceremony was graced with eminent personalities, including West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Sonakshi Sinha, Sourav Ganguli, and Mahesh Bhatt.

While addressing the ceremony, Salman Khan recalled his memory when he visited Banerjee’s house in the Kalighat area during his last trip to the city. He said that when he visited Didi’s house, the only thing he wanted to know was whether it was actually that small. But this time when he went to Mamata’s home, he was jealous as it was smaller this his own home.

“I am jealous of the fact that how can somebody (Mamata Banerjee), who is in such a position, have a house that is smaller than mine. I don’t wish for a smaller house but she has given me a big complex. It only shows how simple people are and we don’t need that much”, he said pointing to chief minister who was sitting in the dais.

After commenting on Didi’s home, he then recalled his meeting with Sinha and Anil Kapoor who were present on the stage, says the telegraph online.

“One day, Anil Kapoor called me to his home. He said, ‘Let’s go to the first floor.’ But there were also four other floors. I think now it has become even bigger. I asked him if he had called me to make me feel jealous of his house,” he said.

The actor also shared the instance when he visited the Shatrughan Sinha’s home, and he was unable to find a free space to sit, as Sinha’s home consist of just one room, a small kitchen, and a bedroom ‘an essential space because sleeping while standing is quite a feat.’
