“Monarchy Creating Anarchy”: Varun Grover On Traffic Disruptions For Ambani Wedding

Filmmaker and comedian Varun Grover flagged how the Mumbai Traffic Police issued a press release informing in the traffic arrangements in Bandra Kurla Complex ahead of a “public event” on July 5 and from July 12 to 15. The public event in question is industrialist and billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s son Anant Ambani’s wedding with Radhika Merchant.

The couple will hold a grand event over the next weekend at the Jio World Convention Centre at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex, with several high-profile celebrities and notable figures attending the event.

Sharing the notice issued by the Mumbai Traffic Police, Grover remarked, “Monarchy creating anarchy. Public event lol.”

Several netizens took to X to criticise the same. “How a Private function is an Public Event? Atleast give some better reason,” said one user while another remaked, “Public wants to know more about this public event?”

Another social media user highlighted how a private event will be inconvenient to the majority of the middle class office goers, stating, “it’s a private family event and not a public event as mentioned, so why the people have to go thru this where roads are blocked for office goers, encouraging them to leave cars at home and take public transportation.”

The Ambani’s held a sangeet ceremony on July 5. The main three wedding events are scheduled to be held between July 12 to 15.

Earlier, in their second pre-wedding bash, a four-day cruise celebration through the Mediterranean Sea, reports emerged of police complaints from locals after the cruise arrived at the port of Genoa in Italy.

The speakers of the blaring music reportedly frightened the residents enough to dial the police. The event allegedly blocked off the bay routes, denying access to residents and other tourists. Though many high-profile weddings have taken place at Portofino, the port has never been closed for any event.
