Among a row of issues concerning the country, the India’s Got Latent row surrounding influencer Ranveer Allahbadia, aka BeerBiceps, and comedian Samay Raina has taken centre stage. While people argue amongst themselves over whether the issue deserves to be a national issue, director, writer, lyricist, and comedian Varun Grover shared his hilarious take on the issue.
During a comedy show, Grover asked his audience to not record videos explaining how comedians write jokes for 3-4 months, which eventually becomes an hour-long show, and they go on tour for it, then record it and share it, and “then go to jail.”

Addressing the latest controversy, Grover, who excels in political comedy, shared how people always advised him to avoid politics and choose neutral topics instead to prevent getting in trouble. “Jo bol rahe the unke band ho gaye (Those who were saying, their [shows] got stopped).”
Taking a dig at Allahbadia, Grover said that his show should have been stopped for no other reason but purely because his name is BeerBiceps. “It sounds like a Gurgaon ka pornstar name.”
Referring to the police raid at Mumbai’s Habitat, where India’s Got Latent episodes were shot, Grover joked, “Police went to that studio where they shot the episode for a raid. Police think they are still sitting there. They are sitting there, waiting, after uploading the episode. ‘No one has come yet. No one has gotten offended.’ Now they have gone, and they are asking, ‘Where is Samay Raina?’”

The controversy began after a video clip of a joke made by Ranveer went viral. Several politicians and others criticised him, which soon gave birth to calls for the judge panel, which included Ranveer, Samay, and influencers Apoorva Mukhija and Ashish Chanchalani, to be arrested. A series of FIRs were filed against them.
YouTube India took down the video. A few days later, Samay shared a post stating he had deleted all the episodes of his show from YouTube.

The Supreme Court granted Ranveer interim protection from arrest but also slammed the podcaster, questioning whether his comments should be regarded as anything other than obscene. “If this is not obscenity, what is it? Why should we quash or club FIRs against you?” the top court asked.
More recently, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry warned social media platforms and online streaming services on Tuesday to follow the rules and guidelines set by the IT Rules (2021).
