The prime accused in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case and son of Shiv Sena leader Mihir Shah has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days. Shah was arrested on July 9 after evading arrest for three days until the police traced him when one of his friends turned on his phone.
On July 7, 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa was travelling with her husband Pradip from Colaba’s Sassoon Dock on their way home on Worli’s Anni Besant Road when a BMW hit the couple’s two-wheeler around 5:30 am. Kaveri crashed on the bonnet of the car, but the driver continued to drive for about 100 metres and fled the scene. While Pradip suffered minor injuries, his wife was declared dead in the hospital.

Son of deputy Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) leader Rajesh Shah, Mihir Shah was sent to seven-day police custody. The police told the court that he had shaved his beard and cut his hair to evade arrest.
The investigation is ongoing to find each individual responsible for helping Shah evade the police. The public prosecutor asked for an extension of police custody to identify all those who “harboured him” after the accident took place.
The Mumbai police have been searching for the 24-year-old and his family members using their car numbers. A total of 12 other people were arrested in connection with the case.
After his arrest, Shah confessed that he was behind the wheel at the time of the accident but denied being under the influence of alcohol. Shah allegedly used a fake identity card that stated that he was 27 to enter the Juhu pub. An individual needs to be at least 25 years old to consume beverages with higher levels of alcohol content in Maharashtra.

The police alleged that the BMW’s number plate had been removed after the accident. Shah’s friends are also being investigated to see whether they helped him destroy the evidence. The car was registered under Rajesh Shah’s name, the accused’s father, and the car’s insurance expired in May.
