Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, the people of Israel, and the Jewish community on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

He posts on X (formerly known as Twitter):

Rosh Hashanah means ‘Head of the Year’ or “First of the Year.’

According to the Hebrew calendar, it falls on the first day of Tishrei, the seventh month, usually marking September or October as per the modern calendar. The festival observed and celebrated for two days in Israel this year begins on Friday, September 15, 2023, and ends on the evening of Sunday, September 17, 2023. As it is also called the Day of Remembrance, Jews consider this period a time of repentance, reflection, and prayer. Along with following tradition and symbolic foods, the blowing of the shofar and a ceremonial ram’s horn is also part of Rosh Hashanah.

On the previous day, September 14, celebrating Hindi Diwas, the Israeli Embassy posted a video and received praise from Mr. Modi. In the video posted on X, officials mouth the popular Hindi movie dialogues, wishing Hindi Diwas and adding that Hindi cinema is the most entertaining way to learn Hindi.

In lauding the embassy video, Mr. Modi wrote on X that tradition, prestige, and discipline are the three pillars of this Israel Embassy—a witty take on Israeli ambassador Naor Gilon”s acting on dialogue from the 2007 film “Mohabbatein.” Their effort to promote Hindi through Indian movie dialogues is formidable, he added.

India and Israel established their bilateral relations in 1992, and thereafter, economic, military, and strategic partnerships have progressed between both countries. Earlier this year, India and Israel signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Industrial Research and Development Cooperation focusing on improving partnerships in key technology areas such as innovation and StartUps, entering into a new phase of deeper bilateral collaboration, Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of Science and Technology, said in a press release.
