Nina Singh, an IPS officer of the 1989 Rajasthan cadre batch, created history by becoming the first woman to head the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Nina Singh currently serves as the Special Director General of the CISF. Nina Singh, who got elevated to the post of Director General, will remain at the helm till her retirement on July 31, 2024.

The Central Industrial Security Force provides security for airports, Delhi Metro, government buildings, and strategic buildings throughout India. Nina Singh”s tenure at the central paramilitary force commenced in 2021. Nina Singh studied at Patna Women”s College and Jawaharlal Nehru University. The officer also holds a Master”s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University. Nina Singh was inducted into the IPS as a Manipur-cadre officer. But later, the officer moved to the Rajasthan cadre.

Nina Singh has been holding the additional charge of CISF DG since the superannuation of Sheel Vardhan Singh on August 31, 2023. The IPS officer served in various positions before this historical appointment. Nina Singh was the Joint Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from 2013 to 2018. During this period, Nina Singh oversaw high-profile cases, including the Sheena Bora murder case and the Jiah Khan suicide case. It is worth mentioning that Nina Singh has co-authored two research papers with Nobel laureates Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee. NDTV reported that she also worked on a project for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2005–2006 to make police stations more approachable.

Meanwhile, Anish Dayal Singh, a Manipur-cadre IPS officer of the 1988 batch, was appointed as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The officer was currently serving as the Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Anish Dayal Singh was holding the additional charge of the CRPF following the retirement of incumbent SL Thaosen on November 30.
