Ooty, a hill station in Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu, turned into a mini-Kashmir as the weather changed drastically. The place witnessed a significant drop in temperature on Sunday, where the minimum temperature dipped to 1.3 degrees Celsius, accompanied by frost.

However, the cold weather and sudden change in climatic conditions affected the daily lives of residents, and they tries to keep themselves warm by gathering around bonfires.

Ooty welcomes frost every year from November to February but the rain storms occurred this year has delayed the arrival of frost to late January.

Ooty city and its surrounding regions such as Kanthal, Pinker Post, and Thalai Kunta can be seen covered in ice. The water drops covering the lawns in the Ooty and surrounding areas, adds to the picturesque beauty of the hill town.

Some parked vehicles saw the settling of snow and it poses difficulty for the residents to start their vehicles. The snowfall has caused distress to many people including runny noses, coughing, and rashes on hands and feet. The cold climate in the region, since they are living at high altitudes, forces them to stay indoors, which has affected their day-to-day routines.

The local meteorological officials told ANI that there has been significant changes in the day and night temperatures in recent weeks, with the maximum temperature reaching around 25 degrees Celsius.
