Parliament Budget Session To Be Held From January 31 To February 9

A brief Budget session of the Parliament and the last of the 17th Lok Sabha will be held from January 31 to February 9. Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the interim budget on February 1, parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi said on Friday.

He wrote on X, “Interim Budget Session 2024, last session of Seventeenth Lok Sabha to be held from 31st January to 9th February, with address of Hon’ble President to the Parliament. On 1st February, Hon’ble FM @nsitharaman ji will present the Interim Union Budget.”

The full-fledged budget later will be presented by the newly elected government during the April-May session.

The President will address both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha at the beginning of the first session after each general election and at the beginning of the first session of each year.

Since the term of the 17th Lok Sabha ends on June 16, it is set to be the last session of parliament before general elections to be announced.

In the interim budget presented by Nirmala, it is said to have the proposals to double the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi for female farmers which might cost the government an extra Rs 12,000 crore. In contrast to last year, the budget will be an interim budget as the Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held after two or three months, reports mint.

The interim budgets are presented in the parliament during an election year or when there isn’t much time to present a full budget. Later, the entire budget will be presented by the elected government.

Unlike last year, instead of a lengthy Economic Survey like previous years, only a brief report on the status of India’s economy is reported to be presented before the interim budget.
