Karnataka minister and Congress leader Priyank Kharge on Wednesday attacked the BJP unit in Karnataka and asked the leaders to answer to the corruption allegations of the BJP leader Basanagouda Patil Yatnal during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The BJP leader stoked a row by accusing the former BJP government in Karnataka of being involved in a Rs 40,000 crore scam during the pandemic. Citing this incident, Kharge wrote on X, “The message is loud and clear to BJP President, if BJP initiates any action against Sri. Yatnal, he will release documents of corruption worth 40,000 cr during Sri BSY’s term as CM.”

The minister then quizzed the BJP president that whether they have indulged themselves in gaining ‘profit from the dead during Corona?’

He then urged the BJP leader Yatnel to release documents to the commission, “I urge, Sri @BasanagoudaBJP that in interest of the state, please release the documents in public or submit them to the commission of Justice John Michael D’Cunha who is probing irregularities in procurements during the pandemic”.

Yathnal has claimed that the Yeduriyappah government has engaged themselves in corruption by overbilling for rented beds and charging exorbitant amount for Covid patients.

“One mask costs Rs 45. How much did Yediyurappa bill the government? He billed Rs 485. He (Yediyurappa) has looted thousands of crores of rupees. Rs 40,000 crore rupees were looted. They billed Rs 8–10 lakhs for one corona patient,” Yatnal alleged.

He then added that all the documents to the issue are currently with the Public Account Committee. His comments followed after the veteran Lingayat leader wrested control of the state BJP unit and succeeded in having his son and MLA BY Vijayendra appointed as its president, reports Indian express.

In response to the BJP leader’s accusation, Karnataka chief minister Siddramaiah stated that the allegations are further evidence of the BJP government operating as a “40 per cent commission government”.
